Visualization supports mental practice

Mental practice is defined as the cognitive (thinking) rehearsal of a physical skill without movement. The most effective way of mental practice is visualisation. To visualize in piano practice, is when one imagines the act of playing the instrument in the mind’s eye, with the eye closed (Piano-ology. 2017). It has been argued that visualization, in this context, is more effective than vision alone. We should be able to visualize the score in our minds just like we do on the keyboard. In the beginning it will probably be difficult. But with lots of practice it will become much easier and the confidence is going to be bigger. We often forget that practising a music piece is not just about doing it on the piano but also doing it mentally. We all want to perform the piece as best as we can so why not to try this method that could help us to achieve it?
